This sculpture depicts Venus, the Roman goddess of love and beauty, scalding a child cupid. The setting for the marble sculpture is a working from the story 'Psyche and Cupid' whereby Venus becomes envious of Psyche and puts her through a series of trials to test her love for Cupid. Here she is confronting cupid. The sculpture is lifesize, sculpted by Joseph Nollekens in the 19th Century and is on permanent display at 'The Collection' gallery in Lincoln, England.
