Design Brief

The 3D Printing Industry Awards are fast approaching, May 20th is the date set but the trophies are yet to be designed!

Here's where you come in, we want you to design an (FDM) 3D printable trophy for the awards, which will be printed professionally by The Virtual Foundry in their bronze Filamet™ and polished up to a high standard. What better way to get your work in to the hands of some of the biggest names in 3D Printing?

Your trophy should be artistic and celebrate the capabilities of 3D printing. Make sure to check out the link to our inspiration board here and at the bottom of the page for an idea of what 3DPI are after.

The winning design will be used as the official trophy for the awards and will be given to 20 of the biggest names in 3D printing as well as a trophy of their own.

The winner will also receive a Startt 3D printer

Dont forget to vote for your favourite community platform in the awards here ;)

Good luck and happy printing!

Top Tips

So you want to win a design competition?
Here are some top tips to help you climb up the leader board

1. Make sure you download the plinth base to reference your design against.

2. Think about your design in context of the awards.

3. Consider the finishing process. Prints will be fired in a kiln and then polished. Be careful of thin extremities in your design. Features with less than a 3mm thickness may not survive the post production process.

4. Once your design is aporved, post it on twitter with the #3DPIAwards. Make sure to tag @MyMiniFactory @VirtualFoundry @3dprintindustry.

  • Read and understand the design brief.
  • Thinkabout how you can best deliver a solution.
