مرحبا بك في المغرب
Welcome to Morocco! Bienvenue a Maroc!
Bab El-Mansour is a grand gate in Triumphal Arch style in the Moroccan city of Meknès (bab means doorway or gate in Arabic). It is the most important and largest Gate in all of Morocco and Northern Africa. It stands right in front of the famous Lahdim Square.
It's construction started in 1672 by sultan Moulay Ismail and finished in 1732 by his son Moulay Abdallah, as the entrance to the Imperial Palace.
It is 16 meters tall. Among its unique features that are remarkably well-preserved are marble columns taken from the nearby Roman ruins of Volubilis, green mosaics, knotted lattices, and inscriptions along its top sections that are said to read: "I am the most beautiful gate in Morocco. I'm like the moon in the sky. Property and wealth are written on my front". (From Wikipedia & Lonely Planet).
