Retro Water Gun (Fully Functional)

About a year ago I designed a non functional version of this water gun for a friends 300mm scale action figure. Many people asked whether I could print a full scale working replica. Now here we are, a full scale 3D printable replica of the most iconic water gun ever.
I modelled this with the intention of making it printable out of PLA, on the most basic of printers with around a 200mm x 200mm print bed. Assembling a functional version will require a lot of extra filing, removing supports, sanding, screwing, glueing and some extra non printed components.
I have included the Fusion360 files and a STEP file so it is easy to modify to suit whatever size PVC pipe is available in your region (The STL files will suit a Pipe with an outer diameter of 27mm for the barrell and a pipe with a 14mm diameter for the pump).
Other items required for assembly;
- 1 metre of 4mm vinyl hose (fish tank air hose)
- 5mm aluminium / stainless / plastic rod for the trigger / valve actuator
- 6mm x 25mm compression spring for trigger / valve actuator
- Stainless steel pins for trigger and valve actuator (could use a paper clip in a pinch)
- insertion rubber / rubber matt to make check valves
The bottle was designed with a standard soft drink / soda bottle thread, so if you aren't prepared to print, join and seal the bottle, you can always just upcycle a 600ml soft drink bottle.
While this works, it is still a work in progress and there are a very long list of things that can be improved with the design, as I make improvements, I will upload them here. Also coming is a test and assembly video.
Nothing about the shape of this water gun is good for FDM printing and almost every part will require support.
There are some thin walled parts or parts that will have to handle water under pressure (The bottle / tank, valve and pump parts) that would be better printed in ABS if you are able to do so, if not, they will probably require sealing.
Objects are not necesarilly in the best printable orientation in the stl files. All the main body parts should be printed with the inside facing down, The pump handles and bottle should be printed vertically.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment.
