A bit about myself.

I'm a business/electronic engineer with two masters in education and opensource software. I started working as an engineer briefly in a car company (Ford), and then in a local company that makes HMI in different automation systems. I liked my engineer work but I didn't see myself there all my life, so I decided I needed a change and got my master's degree in education.

Then I started to work as a teacher and I loved it, so that's what I do and plan to continue doing. I work as an IT/technology teacher in a public high school. I always liked to assemble things and tinker with electronics. My job let’s me play with electronics, different materials, think about projects… that’s what I do with my students, and that makes me happy 😊

When, why and how did I start with 3D printing?

It all started in 2014. I was having lunch in a friend’s friend house and he told me he had a 3d printer. I had no clue what it really could do, so he showed me some printed parts. In that moment my mind started to think about different things and projects I could do and it was mind blowing. So later that year, I bought a Prusa i3 clon (BQ prusa Hephestos).

My designing skills were (and still are) very limited but I already had some practice with a free (at that moment was free) software called Google Sketchup that I used with my students. It is more focused on arquitectural design but, as I was already confident with it, I started using it to design and print basic things.

With what do I print?

That prusa was just the beginning but it got me here. With it, I printed the design that won the Pinshape OpenRC F1 contest which got me an incredible prize, my ZYYX+ 3D printer. It was day and night. That ZYYX+ worked much better, with incredible quality and reliability. So, in that moment I felt confident I could start my lifelong desired project, to design and print my father’s first tractor.

The tractor and tools are my star project, but there are more things along the way. For example, my 250 office garden got me first prize (a BCN Sigmax) in ESSO and MMF contest.

I loved my Sigmax for a while but it really wasn’t for me, so I sold it and bought an original Prusa i3 MK3S+. I’m really pleased with my Prusa and my ZYYX and I use them both all the time.

What’s next?

I’ll continue designing things for my tractor (it is my spoiled child). But nowadays, with work and family, I don’t have much free time, so my designs take a bit longer. I also use my printers to solve day to day problems or improve things such as furniture, supports, caps… as I always say, put a 3D printer in your life and print your problems away!!
