3D Printing Industry Awards Trophy
I have tried to create a trophy that "truly embodies the possibilities of 3D printing" and accentuate what ProtoLabs has done to the additive manufacturing industry. The model utilizes all of the design considerations and constraints. A simple yet complex lattice structure was designed as the base of the trophy. Internal channels are implemented within the model (seen in transparency). Micro features are exploited with 3DPI18 embedded on the back and with high detail features that are perfect for SLA printing. Finally, the model fits the required dimensions for a perfectly sized trophy!
As a young designer in high school, I challenged myself to learn CAD software to bring my idea to life. The figure represented is Hephaestus; god metalworking, stone masonry, forges and the art of sculpture. You can see why I chose him to be the model around the trophy, he corresponds with ProtoLabs efficient manufacturing service. Just like Hephaestus, ProtoLabs symbolizes the idea of beautiful production and creations. Hephaestus hold the globe in his mighty hands, the same way ProtoLabs provides products all across the world and has changed the manufacturing process by allowing any individual or company to have access to them.
I had a great time designing this model and learned how to render objects and learn new artistic CAD software. I have included a 3D printed photo with renders in different materials to show off the different looks.
Any infill above 5%
Lower layer height = higher resolution
Supports are not needed but will allow the model to look better.
