I want a more heat resistant holder for my TS100 soldering iron and had the idea, to do it with a 608ZZ ball bearing.
You need these items:
- Best: 608ZZ full metal or full ceramic ball bearing. 608-2RS with plastic caps and plastic spacer may also work, but it could melt.
- M3 screw 12mm or longer
- M3 spring or normal washer
- M3 nut
- Best: 45mm x 55mm soldering sponge in wet state. You can also use these ones and cut it to the right size, while it is wet. Maybe these already has the right size.
- Masking Tape

Step 1
Wrap one or two layers of masking tape around the ball bearing. This is for heat isolation and is also needed to tight fit the bearing into the shell.
Step 2
Put the ball bearing into to holder and put the bearing holder on the top of the soldering station base. After that, put the screw through the holes.
Step 3
Put the washer and nut on the other side and tight it with a wrench and a screwdriver. The angle between the holder and the station is fixed.
Step 4
Moistening the soldering sponge and put it in the shell.
Thats it.
